k so, sitting here in class. yet another class in the computer lab. Blah. I'm actually getting pretty sick of it. So, remember that Christian
kid? Yeah, he's sitting next to me. Cause his class is mixed in with mine. Yup. I'm completely bored. I really do believe that I need
something new to rant about. Hmm -thinks-
Alright so todays rant is about family members. yep. Especially annoying uncles who think that they can control your life. You know what I'm
talking about. The ones who randomly move into your house, jobless, who should really get a damn job and move out. But no. They seem to enjoy bossing
you around to much to move out. They enjoy ridiculing you to no extent. THEN they lecture you and tell you what you're doing wrong with your
life. Oh, and did I mention that he yells at you for not inviting your mother to your prom after she disowned you? Yeah -_- Thats what I get every day
from my moron of an uncle. I swear if dad doesn't kick him out soon I'm packing my bags and leaving. I don't even care anymore.
I'll go live with my sister.
Next topic: Bollywood films and radical translation.
So, in Novel Cinema we looked at a topic on adaptation and translation. Meaning, how novels are turned into movies. What changes and what stays the
same. Well,we were given the first few pages of the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Then we looked at three different movies on the novel.
The first movie was a complete literal translation. It was word for word of the novel and the setting matched. One downside, was the mothers over
reactions to EVERY little thing. She was like a damn chicken with its head cut off! Her voice goes right through you. Everything is so out of place
just because the father wouldn't meet with the new guy in town so that one of their five daughters may have the chance of marrying him. Like come
off it. Get over yourselves.
The second move that we watched was completely different. The scenery changed a lot. There were only four daughters instead of five. The mother was
not as bad. her temper tantrums were played down a lot. This was the Hollywood version.
Then we have the third movie. "Bride & Prejudice". The Bollywood version. Taking place in India. Which is a VERY big scenery change.
Again there were only four daughters and the mothers role changed a lot. But the biggest difference in this is that its a damn musical. You don't
really get the plot from the novel. Though most elements stayed the same. We actually watched the entire movie, just because everyone was enjoying it
so much. But thats besides the point. The musical element completely ruined the other versions. This, is what we call a radical translation. You take
the book and COMPLETELY change it, keeping a few of the elements (i.e. names and basic plot). "No life, without wife." People, if you
haven't seen this movie, either watch it, or go to you tube and look up "No life without wife - bride & prejudice" and watch the
video. Its quite funny. And what makes it funnier, is when someone in your class gets up and starts doing the dance! haha.
Anyway, I do believe that I have ranted enough for today. And I only have 10 minutes of class left before lunch. Woo. Farewell my dear people.
